NEWS

Posted May 26, 2008:

Membership: Wanda Hamilton (treasurer) reported 237 members so far this year. We ended last year with 241.

Open Hours: During the summer months of June through August, Open Hours will be only Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3-5 pm.

Fairway Village Website: Rich Casper reported at the May 18 meeting that he has finished the work of preparing the official Fairway Village website. However, he is waiting for the FVRA, FSO, and sports league contacts to give him the information to post on the pages. Watch this site:

fairwayvillage.info

to see when the official pages go up.

Classes for Next Year: No word yet on what software programs the club will be purchasing for 2008-9 classes. Any suggestions from the members?

The Photo Editing SIG is underway and is being held every Friday through the summer. Mary Blackmon is in the computer room every Friday from 1-3 pm for members who want to bring their photos up and work on them.

Genealogy SIG: Gloria Beek will be starting her Genealogy special interest group in Sept. Neither Gloria nor her assistant, Ed Day, will be in Fairway during the summer. She has given her information to that SIG group.

Club Web Site: At the May 18 meeting, a couple of members actually knew what to type into their web browser address bar to get onto our club web site. Using that address:

www.fairwaycug.com

Mary Blackmon demonstrated how to navigate around the site by clicking on the names of the web pages wanted. She also demonstrated how to access our meeting handouts by clicking on their titles on the HANDOUTS page. If you can read this, you already know how to click on the NEWS page.

Mary also went onto the official Fairway Village web site and onto the unofficial Fairway Village photo web site:

www.myfairwayfun.com

Demonstrations:
Ed Watzel demonstrated how to transfer music from a computer music library onto an iPod Shuffle MP3 player and how to recharge the player by plugging it into your computer. Mary demonstrated how to copy music or audio from a CD you own onto your computer using Windows Media Player. Then how to "sync" the music or audio from WMP to an MP3 player.

Handouts: the best of MP3 players currently for sale, and how to use Windows Media Player are available on the Handouts page.

Refreshments: Everyone seemed to enjoy the big trays of cookies, the wine, the punch, and the basket of mini-quiches available before and after the meeting.

Prizes: Rich Casper and Helen Watzel (fix!) had their ticket numbers called and selected the USB drive and 4-port USB hub as their respective prizes.

Looking Ahead to the Sept. 16 meeting:
